Hurricane-rated door assemblies must be installed exactly per the Florida Product Approval installation instructions. Deviating from the approved installation method voids the product approval and may result in failed inspections.
Frame Anchoring
• Anchor type, size, spacing, and embedment depth must match the product approval's installation instructions exactly.
• Typical anchoring uses through-frame fasteners into the surrounding wall construction at specified maximum spacing.
• The anchor pattern may vary depending on the wall construction type (masonry, concrete, steel stud, wood stud).
Shimming and Grouting
• Shim the frame plumb and square before anchoring. Use non-compressible shims at anchor locations.
• Grout hollow metal frames per the product approval requirements. Some approvals require full grouting of frame cavities.
Hardware Installation
• All hardware must match the tested configuration in the product approval. Substituting hardware not included in the tested assembly voids the approval.
• Hinge quantity, type, and fastener specifications must match the approval.
• Lock, closer, and weatherstripping must be installed per the approved configuration.
Sealant and Weatherstripping
• Apply perimeter sealant between the frame and rough opening as specified in the product approval.
• Install all weatherstripping and gasketing included in the approved assembly. Missing weatherstripping can cause water infiltration test failures.
