Knockdown vs. Welded Steel Door Frame
Knockdown (KD) steel door frames are designed for use in both new and existing drywall or blockwall openings. A KD steel door frame has interlocking tabs and slots and is assembled at the jobsite.
KD frames have visible seams after installation and are typically the most affordable option because they ship in pieces and require assembly upon arrival.
Welded commercial metal door frames can also be used in new or existing construction. They offer greater strength, versatility, and a seamless appearance, and are generally easier to install because they arrive preassembled.
Welded hollow metal door frames are suitable for drywall and blockwall openings. They are typically more expensive than knockdown frames since they ship fully assembled and do not require field assembly or finishing.
