Commercial Fire Rated Metal Doors

Our fire rated metal doors are crafted with 18-gauge Galvanneal steel. They're designed with a safety-first mindset, protecting people and property by containing and preventing the spread of fire.

Our doors are supplied from manufacturers that meet the strict guidelines of the steel door institute, as well as testing from Underwriters Laboratories (UL), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM).

Metal Door Fire Rating Options

Our commercial-grade fire rated metal doors can withstand the spread of fires to the architectural-grade standard fire rating of 90 minutes. We carry metal fire rated commercial doors with custom options including stain finishes, sizing, and non-existing hardware. The most common applications for a fire rated door include commercial openings needing to meet code requirements or any opening that needs to be protected from a potential fire hazard from spreading.

How Fire Testing Works

Fire testing is completed by independent, internationally recognized agencies that test full door, frame, and hardware assemblies to ensure they meet or exceed regulation standards. Assemblies go through two phases of testing.

Phase One: Door, frame, and hardware assemblies are placed in a furnace. They are exposed to increasing levels of heat, flame, and pressure that simulate a real fire for a specific amount of time.

Phase Two: Once the time has been reached, the assembly is exposed to a stream of cold water or fire suppressant.

In order to pass testing, the assembly must remain secure. View more information on commercial fire rated doors here

Fire Rated Metal Door FAQ's

How do I know what fire rating my opening requires?

Fire rating requirements for a fire rated door are set by local building codes and the wall assembly where the fire door will be installed. The rating often depends on the building occupancy, door location, and fire separation design.

Many commercial fire rated doors require ratings such as 20, 45, 60, 90, or 180 minutes. If you are unsure which fire rated door rating your opening requires, your architect, code official, or our door experts can help determine the correct option for your project. Are your fire rated metal doors tested and certified?

Yes. Our fire rated metal doors are manufactured and tested to meet industry fire safety standards. These commercial fire rated doors are designed to help meet fire code requirements when installed with properly rated frames and hardware.

Using the correct fire door assembly ensures the door performs as intended during a fire event and helps buildings meet safety and compliance standards.

Can fire rated metal doors include glass or louvers?

Yes. Fire rated metal doors can include approved vision panels or louvers, depending on the door’s fire rating and application. Some fire door configurations allow glass or louvers, while others may have size or placement restrictions.
